Liversedge FC vs Albion Sports: NCEL

WALKER RUNS ALBION DEFENCE RAGGED

After passing an early pitch inspection the visitors kicked off with Liversedge defending the shed end and in the first minute Sedge almost scored. Fearon’s effort was stopped by Clarke making his debut in goal and as the ball came back in Clarke made a hash of the save as it went for a corner. When Fearon lost possession to Shazad in midfield the Albion striker played the ball to Facey but Tarangadzo was there to clear any danger. Boshell latched on to a rebound but Clarke in goal gathered well under pressure from the Sedge striker.

Sedge were asking all the questions and when Kenny sent Fearon away out wide right the prolific strikers cross went straight across the face off goal and for a goal kick. Albion’s first effort on goal was when Facey played Shazad in on the left but as he cut inside his shot went wide. Suddards and Donovan linked well to give Facey a chance in the penalty area, but Adam Field came in with a good tackle to clear the danger. Boshell had a header go over the bar from a Porritt cross then a cross from Walker on the left found its way to Fearon but his shot went over the bar. On 30 minutes a goal looked certain but for Clarke in the Albion goal, Flynn had his close-range shot saved by Clarke and as the ball came back in for Kenny Clarke was there again to keep it level. Walker had a shot saved by Clarke a minute later and as Sedge piled on the pressure a cross from the left found Flynn who did everything right but Clarke in goal made a great save to keep the score at 0-0. Walker on the left was terrorising the home defence and it was another cross from the winger to Boshell who saw his shot go over the bar. On 37 minutes Flynn had a shot saved again by Clarke in goal. When Shazad, Clay and Gordon tried to create something for the visitors Steers was there to let the ball run out for a goal kick.

Sedge kicked off the 2nd half as Albion brought on Peters for Donovan and the home side wasted no time in going a goal up on 47 minutes. From a Walker corner on the left Fearon planted a firm header into the back of the net. On 50 minutes it was 2-0, after good work in the Albion penalty area from Walker and Flynn to set up Boshell who made no mistake with his shot. Fearon had a shot saved by Clarke then from a Kenny corner Fearon headed over the bar. On 58 minutes Albion brought on Cusack for Suddards and a minute later Flynn latched on to a ball out of defence and with a 1 on 1 with Clarke in goal it was that man again who saved the day for Albion. After Cooper won a corner for Albion, Shazad had a shot go over the bar, Sedge then brought on Raw for Boshell. Immediately Walker sent Raw away who forced a corner but from the resulting cross Clarke gathered. Walker went on an Eddie Gray jinx in the penalty box beating 3 players, but Albion managed to stop the threat and cleared. On 70 minutes it was Joe Kenny who was shown yellow as we entered the last 20 minutes. Misfortune for Sedges new signing, Flynn had a shot go over the bar, on another day it could have been a hattrick for him. Fearon minutes later played in Flynn with the striker firing the ball into the back of the net for his 1st only for the flag to go up for offside. On 75 Minutes Clay for Albion went into the referee’s book after a foul on Walker who had given him an uncomfortable afternoon. As the game entered the final minutes Sedge brought on Bottomley for Fearon and Cyrus for Porritt with Albion bringing on Doyle for Gordon.

A convincing win for Liversedge and but for Clarke in goal for Albion the score would have been much higher.

As we end the year 2020 Liversedge have played 17 league games and remain unbeaten, where will 2021 take us?
