Liversedge FC vs Barton Town FC: NCEL

Liversedge A Bridge Too Far for Barton

Sedge were slow out of the starting blocks again as Barton applied the early pressure looking the liveliest at The Clayborn Stadium. After 15 minutes Barton’s Taron Hare had a shot that hit the bar and was cleared by Sedge and 5 minutes later Joshua Lacey saw his shot go just over Porters goal.

In the 21st Barton took the lead when Joshua Batty’s low shot beat Jordan Porter in goal. The goal rocked Sedge and produced a reaction from Rimmingtons players, soon after Sedge hit the post on 32nd, then on 41 minutes a Paul Walker free kick was superbly tipped round the post for a corner by Charles Dixon in goal. With Sedge now in full flow a massive scramble on the Barton goal line was somehow cleared by the visitors with Sedge claiming a hand ball but to no avail. A minute into added time of the first half Sedge were indeed awarded a penalty when Oliver Fearon was brought down in the penalty area and it was top goal scorer Joe Gaughan that levelled matters.

The 2nd half was looking like Liversedge v Charles Dixon in the Barton goal as he saved everything Sedge threw at him. On the 61st Dixon was finally beaten and what a goal it was from that man Joe Gaughan from around 25 yards out. The goal knocked the stuffing out of Barton as they conceded again a minute later when far out wide on the left Oliver Fearon gained possession from a Barton mix up and from a tight angle made it 3-1. Five minutes later it was 4-1 when Tarangadzo celebrated as he flicked home a cross beating Dixon in goal. It seemed game set and match, but Barton were awarded a penalty on 72 minutes and Nathan Peat slotted coolly making it 4-2.

Sedge had further chances but were either thwarted by Dixon in goal or for offside, but it was Sedge that took the points and Charles Dixon in Goal that took the plaudits.
