A light shower had eased as both teams observed a minute silence before the early 1-30 kick off in honour of clubman Simon Emery.Sedge kicked off and after 2 minutes Fearon’s pass to out wide was not controlled by Walker on the wet surface and the chance went wasted. Guisborough broke away seconds later and had the first attempt on goal but Spozio’s weak shot was no trouble for Porter in goal. On 4 minutes Guisborough forced the first corner on the right, after a change of ball Ferguson’s corner was headed clear by Fearon. After a challenge on Walton the big man was hobbling and needed treatment on an ankle injury after only 7 minutes play.

Spozio for Guisborough was looking lively and had more meaningful shots on goal but again Porter saved. Walker had a shot headed clear by Marshall in the home defence and as Porritt’s cross came in Walton just failed to connect as Yaqub in the Guisborough goal gathered at the near post.

On 24 minutes Sedge almost scored when from a corner Fearon’s header found Steers who turned, and his sliced attempt hit the post and the home side cleared for another corner on the far side. Although Sedge were having more possession, Guisborough were always looking pacey up front and Sedge had to be alert when McAvoy’s run to a cross was headed clear. After this Sedge had yet another ball change on 35 minutes.3 minutes later Sedge were caught out, Spozio passed out wide right to Roberts whose cross found unmarked Young making it 1-0 to the home side. On 41 minutes the skies darkened with heavy rain and hail now coming down.

The 2nd half Guisborough brought on Thompson for McAvoy and on 47 minutes Sedge had a great chance to level but Fearon blazed the ball over the bar from a corner.  Alfie Raw had an effort go wide and on 53 minutes Sedge had a penalty appeal denied when Hardacre was brought down, but the referee was having none of it. A good move from Thompson and Bartliff for Guisborough ended with a shot from Ferguson saved by Porter in goal. Shortly after the home side thought they had scored again when Bartliff’s cross was tapped in by Thompson, but the flag was up for offside. This spurred Sedge on and on 63 minutes they brought on Field for Porritt; 3 minutes later they levelled the scores from Alfie Raw when from a cross on the left he was free to tap the ball into the net. At this stage there looked to be only 1 winner as Sedge went on the attack when Boshell found Fearon on the right, his surge forward ended with a good low shot saved by Yaqub in goal. Walton saw his shot on the turn tipped over by Yaqub, but the flag was up for offside.

On 73 minutes Sedge were in front after a good move on the left the cross came in and there was Fearon to make it 2-1 Sedge. On 81 minutes Guisborough brought on Holdsworth for Roberts and Liversedge brought on Bottomley for Boshell, 2 minutes later it was game set and match after a mix up in the home defence Walker made it 3-1. Guisborough then brought on Robinson for Ward and shortly after Sedge brought on Gaughan for Fearon. Guisborough’s Ferguson in the final minute had a shot go well over the bar and in added time another mix up in the home defence gave Joe Walton the chance to go round the keeper and score.
