Newcastle Blown Ha’Way by Liversedge 

After an earlier down poor it was Sedge who kicked off in the sun and strong breeze towards the cowshed. A Fearon cross from the right was easily collected by Grainger in the Newcastle goal after Walton just failed to reach. A cross from Alfie Raw on the right was headed out by Scorgie. It was Liversedge asking the questions in the early minutes but they had to make a change after 10 minutes with Kenny coming on for the injured Daly. Immediately after Benfield almost scored when a good move involving Giraud and Jake Turnbull that ended with Brayson heading over the bar. The visitors made a substitution on 12 minutes with Evans coming on for Slaughter.

On 17 minutes it looked certain Sedge had scored when Boshill’s left wing cross found Fearon, his knock back found Walton but the big mans header hit the post. On 23 minutes Sedge got the goal from a corner on the left Boshill turned and scored. Benfield could have levelled on 27 minutes when Jake Turnbull rounded Porter in goal but his shot went wide. Good work involving Boshill, Kenny, Walker and Raw found Fearon inside the box who went down under a challenge from a Benfield defender, the referee deemed simulation a gave a yellow card to Fearon. On 45 minutes Benfield levelled the scores with a volley from Peter Glen-Ravenhill.

The 2nd half started and with Sedge still reeling from the late equaliser, on 47 minutes they were caught again when a long through ball found Paul Brayson in space who calmly lobbed the oncoming Porter in goal to put Benfield 2-1 up. On 53 minutes Sedge had a good chance to level but Kenny’s effort went over the bar. Giraud for Benfield was always looking a threat going forward for the visitors who now were having the better of the play. From a Walker assist on 60 minutes Boshill got his 2nd goal when his shot went under Grainger in goal 2-2 and game on. Benfield had a claim for a penalty turned down and a minute later Mark Turnbull was cautioned for a foul on Walton. When Benfield’s Scorgie, Brayson and Renney linked well Hardacre cleared the threat and it was Fearon who broke away for Sedge on the right and scored to make it 3-2.

Benfield then brough on Novak for Renney, 2 minutes later it was 4-2 to Sedge after Boshill’s effort was turned in by Tarangadzo. Sedge brought on Gaughan for Boshill and on 85 minutes Bottomley for Walker. A minute late it was 5-2 with a goal from Joe Walton.
