“We need the fans. They made a big difference” – Kevy Tarangadzo calls for Liversedge supporters to turn out on New Year’s Day

Liversedge FC will face Pontefract Collieries on New Year’s Day in the second West Yorkshire Derby of a festive fixture double after beating rivals Brighouse Town away from home.

Kevy Tarangadzo says that Sedge need to show the same team spirit as they did against Brighouse to ensure another three points to start 2022.

The defender also hopes for a repeat from the supporters who he admits “made a difference” as they backed their side on the road in good numbers.

After a Man of the Match performance in his second of two consecutive starts Tarangadzo is feeling confident in his own ability at the moment, he said: “I’m feeling really positive at the minute.

“I have a lot of confidence. The gaffer has put me in and I’m just trying to do a good job in each game to help the team.”

On the Brighouse game as a whole, he added: “It was a really good game.

“A lot of people were there, nearly 850 fans and a lot of those were Sedge. The crowd was good, they created a great atmosphere in a tense game.

“We defended well, we stuck together, and we got the win.”

It was clear to see that the players responded to the excellent support, the team heading straight over to fans at full time.

On whether he hopes for a similar atmosphere on New Year’s Day, Tarangadzo said: “We need the fans. They made a big difference.

“You could hear them throughout the game, they were really loud. It really does make a big difference when we have a lot of fans in and they get behind us like that.”

Sedge could make it their third league double over an opposition after a 3-1 beating of Pontefract away from home, a fixture which Tarangadzo started in.

However, they face a Colls side in a very different vein of form, having picked up three consecutive league wins as they aim to climb away from the relegation battle.

On Pontefract, Tarangadzo said: “They are going to give it their all, that’s the sort of side they are. They will battle us all the way.

“We’re just going to have to be up for the battle as we were at Brighouse.

“We need to stay solid, use that team spirit, and stick together to get another positive result over the line.

“If we do that, I don’t doubt that we’ll keep getting the results we have had in the past few games. Just wins, and wins, and wins.

“That’s what we’re all about!”
